How to mount your Contour HD 1080P Camera to your RC car truck or buggy

If you have a Contour HD video camera and want to mount it to your RC truck this page should be helpful. I tried to somehow utilize the side slots that are on the Contour camera and while I was struggling to make something work I came across this setup. All you need is what is show in the photo below. This is about $8 in parts, $5 of that is for the vacuum cleaner belt. I bought everything at Sears Hardware but you can buy these items just about anywhere home improvement products are sold. You need:

(1) Milford Copper 12" Pipe Hanger ($2)
(1) Vacuum Cleaner Belt ($5)
(2) 1.5" or 2" 10/32nd's screws (Make sure they thread properly into the Milford hanger. The screws that come with the hanger are way too short to allow the hanger to grasp the camera
(3) washers (2 are optional) - See photo 2, one side has the washer and one does not, it works fine either way. The 3rd washer is used where the hanger tail piece is screwed to the body

Step 1: Cut the vacuum belt so that it is 5 1/2 inches long. This will allow it to wrap around the camera but not cover the record slider switch. It also provides good protection for your camera body
Step 2: See photo 2. It is that simple to mount the camera into the copper hanger
Step 3: This will vary by brand. My Kyosho 777's rear body mount was the perfect spot to mount the hanger to. I replaced the stock length tapered screw with a longer one that I had in my R/C Screws kit. The stock screw would have worked, it just made it easier to get through the tail piece of the hanger with the longer screw. I also needed to add a washer here based on the size of the hole in the Milford hanger.

HELPFUL HINTS:
Don't over tighten the screws or the camera's record slider will be hard to move.
Put the clamp towards the front of the camera. This allow you to make it tight w/o getting in the way of or hindering the operation of the record slider
The extra length of the Milford pipe hanger can be cut off. I left it there and bent it back up so that it provides a little bit of protection in a rollover.
