Where To Race Photos & Videos Chicago R/C Club Links Cars & Trucks Race Day Help About Us

WOW! Monster Jam has come and gone but there will be another one in 2004. This Jam was our biggest one ever! Thank you to everyone that came out and participated, watched, helped out, and took photos! Don't miss the next one in late September or early October. We will announce the date soon. Special thanks to the Lake Zurich Park District for allowing us to use their amazing facilities to hold the Monster Jam. Without their support, we could have never had such a great event. Thanks LZPD!!!

Obstacle Course Racing - The obstacle course through the skate park was by far our best course yet. Drivers went head-to-head for 3 laps in a double elimination style event. The course took drivers over a set of small jumps, into a 90 degree right hander and over the whoop section, another right hander over the skate ramp, up and around a large cone on the half pipe, then through one of 2 paths to the finish! Congratulations to Brian Smolik (Big Squid RC) on taking the win. Brian edged out Martin Tomic on the last lap after running neck and neck the entire race.

Hill Climb - The hill climb was a new event at the Jam this year and was a huge success! Drivers raced against the clock up the hill, around a cone, and back down to the finish. Everyone had 3 attempts at the hill. In the Monster Truck class the 10 second mark became the number to beat. Martin Tomic and Gabe Guild turned in a 9.04 and 9.98 respectively, then John Skalski, the last driver to run, smashes everyone's time with an event best 8.42! Among the 1/8th scale buggies, Brian Louis (that's me), ran an event best of 8.15 seconds. Tony Mrkvicka was a close second with an 8.23 and Scott Williamson turned in an 8.35.

At the next hill climb we will try double elimination so drivers can run side-by-side instead of against the clock. The grassy hill proved how much of a difference the big .21 and larger motors make in these monster trucks over the .15's. Hopefully someone will have the new Losi LST or the new Genesis .46 at the next Monster Jam!

Big Jump Contest - The new big jump arrive at the skate park by lunchtime. Special thanks to David Didier for getting the ramp for us, without his big F-150 truck the big jump may not have happened! Lucky for us though, it did happen! With drivers at the top of the hill and me at the bottom calling out the next jumper, things got a little messy. everyone was so anxious to hit the jump that we started to lose track of which truck jumped what distance. But we do know this, John Skalski launched his T-Maxx 50 feet 6 inches! Gabe Guild was the next closest monster truck jump at 39'6". Nice job guys! With the buggies, Tony Mrkvicka launched 72 feet!!! Guy Cummins threw down a 60'6" jump, and Brian Louis put in a meager 52 footer. I give myself a 10 though for the perfect 4 point landing on every attempt! Great job on the 72 footer Tony!
Sled Pulling - The sled pull is more of an exhibition event at the Monster Jam. We ended up doing this event last and about 5 or 6 guys gave it a try. The new sled will take some getting used to, it is very heavy even w/o any weight in it! Jay Krush pulled 20 pounds 50 feet and Andy Bender with pulled the same weight 54 feet with ihs Savage .25. Then Guy Cummins hooked up his 1/6th scale RWD buggy and made a full 80 foot pull with 20 pounds in the bucket. At 30 pounds, we needed to lay a 10 pound plate on the back of his buggy for traction. It worked as he pulled 30 pounds over 40 feet!
